Description Beaches: Rancho Luna Beach, Cienfuegos Airport. Cuba
14 km. from Cienfuegos lays this small beautiful beach bathed by the Caribbean Sea, having a half-rounded form, fine sands and quiet waters. Its especially uneven coastal shelf, inhabited by a thriving sea life and plenty of lovely coral formations at low and medium depths, has several ideal diving sites at Ensenada de Barreras and Las Playitas. Deeper immersions display a broken surface rich in sponges, sea fans and coral beds.
Some diving centers operate in the area, such as Faro Luna, Guajimico y Whale Shark, featuring beginners’ courses, day and nighttime immersions around sunken ships and reefs, as well as catamaran, aquabike and kayac rides.
Notre Dame CoralIt’s an area with spectacular coral reefs inhabited by myriads of all-sized all-colored species, and full of sunken ships. Among the coral beds of the region, Notre Dame, the highest coral formation in the Americas, with a height of 5 m. can be seen. -

French émigrés from Bordeaux and Louisiana founded the settlement of Fernandina de Jagua on a large, calm bay on the Caribbean Sea on April 22, 1819. In 1830, when it was upgraded to a town, its name was changed to Cienfuegos, in honor of José Cienfuegos, the Governor-General of Cuba. Fifty years later, it was proclaimed a city and, for its beauty, was called "the pearl of the south." By the end of the 19th century, it had become the fourth most important city in the country.,
Considered the crowning jewel of Cuban architectural in the 19th century, Cienfuegos stands out for the perfect design of its streets and for the refinement and good taste of the buildings in the historic center of the city, which has been declared a national monument. When visiting, stop by the Casa del Fundador (the Founder's House); Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción (Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception) Cathedral; the Tomás Terry Theater; the Ferrer Palace; and the José Martí Park, which contains the only arch of triumph in Cuba.,
Other attractions include the Prado Promenade, the Valle Palace, the museums of Naval and Provincial History, and the Reina (Queen's) Cemetery.,
Farther out from the center of the city, tour the Nuestra Señora de los Angeles de Jagua (Jagua for short) Fortress, the Tomás Acea Cemetery and the Botanical Gardens.,
In addition to these cultural and historic attractions, Cienfuegos has excellent facilities for scuba diving and other water sports, nature tourism and thermal baths. - Your first-hand experiences really help other travelers. Thanks!

GichardRancho Luna Beach
The Playa Rancho Luna is one for beach lovers. This leading resort is a short drive south of Cienfuegos and is the best beach in the area, while also down this way is the Delfinario dolphin attraction and Jagua Castle (Castillo de Jagua). Further south again is the beautiful Gran Parque Natural Topes de Collantes. Of note, both Trinidad and Santa Clara are popular nearby towns within easy driving distance. -

Vanessa-reviews“Not a typical Cuban beach ”
I didn't dare swim in the ocean ... rocky beaches, sea urchins everywhere, seaweed ... The beach is not even 1km long so don't expect to take long endless walks. -

YerduaVacation“Lovely sand and waters ”
a lovely little beach usually very quiet. Its a short walk from Rancho Luna hotel and a nice way to get some fitness and then cool off with a swim. It has a beach bar where you can get ice cold cervesas. It is what I picture when I close my eyes and visualize a beach. Ahhhhhh -

rmatrai“Average beach ”
The beach is located ca. 10 kms from Cienfuegos. It is the closest beach to the city. You can reach by taxi, we paid 5 CUC for one way. Shadow, sunbeds (2CUC) and bars available. There are better beaches in Cuba, but it is a good place to relax. -

Philipp A“noisy, crowded, littered - but relaxing ”
we were there on a weekend. the beach was crowded with families and screaming kids. It's not beautiful, has a lot of seaweed and the food was poor (a common thing in Cuba). Still, we found a spot to lay down and doze - that was good. Cuba has MUCH better beaches to offer. Don't waste your time going there. -

the public beach was large with clean sand , many places to sit and enjoy a cerveza . The resort end of the beach was a disaster and tourists need shoes to walk on it and the public beach was much safer for tourists . -

I spent the day at a hotel with my boyfriend's family. They had a lot of attractions, a nice pool, kayak and water bikes included. However, the food was horrible. -

Not a patch on the northern coast beaches but nice sand, warm water, various food stalls (moneda nacional) and bars (CUC) and good for a day out if in Cienfuegos. 5 mins from Delfinario -

Visit at the weekend and mingle with the Cubans, make sure you have the local Pesos to buy food and drink, Cuc's are no good, or you will pay far too much. we ate and drank like kings for the day for under £2! The Cubans start drinking their rum very early and carry on all day, when it becomes... More
