    Havana Airport

José Martí International Airport (IATA: HAV, ICAO: MUHA), sometimes known by its former name Rancho-Boyeros Airport, is located 15 km (9 mi) southwest of Havana, Cuba, and is a hub for Cubana de Aviación, Aerogaviota, and Aero Caribbean, and former Latin American hub for Aeroflot Soviet Airlines.[2] It is Cuba's main international and domestic gateway, and serves several million passengers each year. The airport lies in the municipality of Boyeros and connects Havana with the rest of the Caribbean, North, Central and South America, Europe, and one destination in Africa. It is named in memory of patriot and poet José Martí. In the 1960s the airport was bombed by B-26 aircraft from Brigade 2506, a CIA-sponsored group of Cuban exiles attempting to liberate Cuba from Fidel Castro. Cubans are not allowed to own aircraft or use the airport for either private or commercial flight. Only government-owned aircraft are allowed to use the facilities. There are currently four passenger terminals in use at the airport, plus a freight terminal.[3] Terminal 1 is used primarily for domestic flights. Terminal 2 opened in 1988, primarily for charter flights to the United States. Ten years later on April 27, 1998, the International Terminal 3 was opened by Canada's then-Prime Minister, Jean Chrétien, and former Cuban president, Fidel Castro. International Terminal 3 offers many modern facilities and jetways that the former international Terminal 1 did not provide. Terminal 5 is operated by Aerocaribbean. Today, Copa Airlines is the foreign airline with most flights to the airport, operating 34 flights a week (roughly 5 daily flights) from Panama City, Panama, and Bogota, Colombia. The airport is operated by Empresa Cubana de Aeropuertos y Servicios Aeronáuticos (ECASA).

    “Not bad at all! ”
We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights as part of a larger group end of January 2014. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were big, no noise from neighbouring rooms, view to Malecon. The water in the bathroom was way too hot, though!! The buffet restaurant was OK, but lacked a bit in imagination, served more or less the same food every night. Great outdoor areas, large terrace and swimming pool.

    “Best Choice. . .”
This hotel is a very nice property and the best choice for anyone visiting Cuba. It is well located and well kept, yes, it is time for some remodeling but considering the current situation in the country, it is going to take a while before they can preform a complete or partial overhaul. The rooms are comfortable, the whole place is air conditioned and it offers Wi-Fi in the rooms and most public areas. They have a decent sized restaurant, bar and swimming pool, the staff is very nice and they do speak English. The Malecon is only two blocks away and there are some restaurants nearby. They are located in one of the main avenues, called Avenida De Los Presidents (Presidents Avenue). There is a "L" shaped terrace al fresco and it is used as the main bar and they serve sandwiches and/or snacks. At night, they have live music and the atmosphere is very festive. Do not forget that you are in Cuba, this is not the Waldorf Storia in NYC but at one time or another this is where all celebrities and presidents from other countries used to stay.

    “Well located ”
Situated not far from the Malecon, you can easily walk to all kinds of restaurants and bars. Very safe neighbourhood where you can walk at all hour of the day.Wifi and internet access. Good breakfast buffet in the morning and very friendly staff. Nice patio on the side and front of the hotel where you can sit and have a drink and watch the world go by.We had room #615 which had a good view of Avenida de los Presidentes and a school. The outdoor pool was nice and big but unfortunately it was not well taken care of.Not well clean and the bottom liner needs to be replaced.

    “Rooms need Decorating ”
The last hotel on the Classical Tour, Looks good from the outside but has a faded glory and the staff need some customer service training. Not the cleanest hotel we stayed in with the pool area in dire need of a deep clean. Artificial grass is a great medium for bacteria to grow if it is not cleaned properly. The rooms also need some attention with flaky paint and the odd chipped floor tile. The carpet in the corridor looked in need of some attention and overall the hotel away from the reception area was a bit shabby. The staff in the restaurant certainly need to be inspired as some did not look to happy with their lot and the banging of plates could be heard regularly. Food was average but a mention must be made of the young girl chef who made me an omelette for dinner as I did not fancy any of the offered fare. Why oh why cook fried eggs for breakfast in advance and leave them in a hotplate when you could cook them fresh. Laziness was evident from the staff within the restaurant. Be aware also when changing money at reception, they seem to make up the rate as they go along and the best place to change money is in the tourist market in the town where we got the best rate of the holiday. The hotel is a bit out of the main drag of Havana which was a shame. We did however visit the Tropicana and for a spectacular over the top show this could not be beaten. However we did expect more than a few stale nuts as our ?nibble? with our drink. It has been suggested that drinks in the Tropicana were very expensive but I feltt by UK standards that they were not.

    “Good Hotel ”
Stayed here for 3 nights from the 12/06/14. We had a room on the 7th floor which was lovely it was spacious & clean, the aircon worked great which was nice after a day out. The shower was a bit temperamental but was adequate. The first night we ate in the restaurant which wasn't that great, the food was tepid & not very nice. Breakfast was much better. The staff were very helpful & the bellboys recommended a couple of restaurants nearby, we went to one which was lovely. The pool is also nice after a day site seeing & the pool bar makes a mean Mojito. They also had a couple of different bands playing in the evenings on the veranda which was nice. We would stay here again.

Negotiate an upgrade to a suite on the top floor which includes a bedroom and living, a full bath and a half bath. Decorated in antique furniture.Ask for the Bellman whose wife works at the front desk. His English is excellent and his wife is very nice. They can help you organize your upgrade. Chat with the bartender at the bar inside the formal restaurant. Very friendly and helpful.

“Good value for money with excellent location ”
This is my second visit to this Hotel, but the previous one was some years ago so it was like first time!! I chose it this time for the location and was pleasantly surprised to see it has improved. Still the Hotel has the flavor you expect in a Hotel of the Fifties!! Being a City Hotel, with pool in the center of Vedado area at just 3 or 4 blocks from Malecon it is already a benefit. Positive: The quiet ambiance, a terrace in front of the Hotel, the pool with sunbeds, snack-bar and grill with good service and nice simple food. there is a door connecting rooms with the pool so you do not have to cross the lobby after enjoying the pool. I do coincide with JoeDassing about the coffee try it at the Lobby bar or at the snack bar in the pool. Rooms: mine was good with 2 sets of windows one with view to the city and the other to the sea... so ask for the ones at the corners of any floor.. Kids: Please be aware that for kids under 10 years there are not activities and swimming pool do not have child area, although it has an area of 0.60 cm

    “Staff not great”
Well it was OK. First off it is a nice hotel and we had a great room on 9th floor. Handy location for sea front and short taxi ride into town. BUT, in ten room the aircon, though "working" had no effect at all. Just a gentle tepid breeze. The food was distinctly average (we were bed and breakfast). The staff seemed to be helping themselves to food while the guests were eating - they were picking up the food with their bare hands and just shoving it into their gobs. Not a great image. The staff were very matter of fact and distant, they didn't seem to want to chat at all unless they were recommending their friends eating establishment. I suppose I would summarize by saying nice clean hotel with good views from upper rooms, decent location, but lacking in any Cuban vibe. Oh yes, and the slowest lift in the world, ever.

“Good hotel option in Vedado ”
This is my fourth stay at the Hotel Presidente. It is still a good and reasonably priced hotel in Havana. The buffet was better this year compared to previous years (except for the coffee which was still as bad... buy your coffee from the bar in the lobby instead). The rooms still could benefit from some maintenance but they are overall good and clean. A couple of changes this year : there used to be a Cadeca (money exchange office) in the hotel but not anymore, in addition there is now wireless internet in the lobby ($) and lower floors of the hotel (not the upper ones). There is now also a band that play in front of the hotel every night until about 11PM, nice new change unless you are in one of the lower floor and want to sleep early.

“Average hotel. Ok for one night ”
I arrived very late and stayed for only one night since my flight was the next day in the afternoon. The security and reception staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet was average. But the worse thing was that you are not able to get normal water to drink unless you pay 2CUC for a little bottle which is crazy expensive for Cuba. In a four star hotel I expect to be able to get some water with my breakfast if I want it. It's very positive that they have a pool since the days are warm. To be able to jump in the water and cool off is just great even though the pool is not in its best standard. The guy working in the pool is very keen on giving good service and keep everything clean and tidy though so a five star for him. There was an intern that took me and my friend to a restaurant called Restaurante Porto Habana. Really service minded and nice guy. Really good restaurant but don't order Piña Coladas since they didn't meet the standard. Overall most of the personal were service minded but not impressive breakfast, crazy that you can't get water and the pool could be better standard.

“Great Hotel in Quiet Area ”
This hotel was way above my expectation. The Hotel is in vedado area close to malecon. Breakfast has lots of choices and the quality is decent. Don't change your money at the hotel, go outside of the hotel on left there is the bank that will give you much better rate than the hotel. The hotel is around 5 KM away from Old havana. I was playing 5 CUC for the trip to havana. Personally I enjoyed this hotel and I will probably back in three months.

    “A gem of a hotel ”
After reading some of the reviews we were a little worried about booking this hotel but in the end we were very relieved and happy with our choice to stay here. The hotel was clean, inviting, and comfortable. The room itself was well maintained and pleasant. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, with large cushy pillows. The bathroom was clean and we had no problems with water pressure. We also had no issues with the air conditioning. Clara, the housekeeper on the 3rd floor truly went above and beyond expectations and helped to make our trip that much more enjoyable. She did an excellent job of making sure we were comfortable. She was very friendly and made an effort to get to know us personally. She even gave us a parting gift that her son made for us and wrote us a kind goodbye letter. In fact, the staff is what sets this hotel apart from all other hotels at which I have ever stayed. They were consistently, genuinely friendly and made every effort to make one's stay enjoyable. They gave good helpful advice and helped to make arrangements for activities beyond what the official tourist desk offered. They were also extremely accommodating and offered us one extra night in the hotel room for free because our flight arrived in the wee hours of the morning. The buffet breakfast, that was included in our package, was decent. The coffee at the bar was the best I have ever tasted! And the pool bar snacks were ok. For a cheap, delicious meal, walk down a block from the hotel and eat at Calzada y F. The location of the hotel, although not within walkable distance to the old town, was a great location, It is a couple of blocks from the ocean wall, across the street from an elementary school , in a fairly quiet and safe neighborhood. Gas stations with convenience type stores are within walking distance. Go there to buy water, rather than at the hotel bar; it is much much cheaper! A hop on hop off bus stops right out front of the hotel as well, making it very much conveniently located. The bus is only 5 cuc for the whole day and takes you to all of the major tourist sites. Other pros were that the pool area, though a bit run down, wasn't terribly busy and was kept quite clean, they had fantastic bands playing on the veranda every night, and had internet access.

“Great base for exploring Havana ”
Four of us (2 couples) stayed here for 2 nights in March. Clean hotel and very nice staff. The rooms were a good size and the beds / furniture were comfortable. The air con failed in my room, but my brothers room was fine. The hotel restaurant was quite good - service was a little slow but the food very good, would recommend that guests try it for themselves. The buffet breakfast was outstanding - great selection and good quality food. The buffet dining room has some amazing Art Deco skylights - lots of Art Deco features elsewhere in hotel as well. All things considered we had a very pleasant stay here and we got a very good bed & breakfast deal by booking through Cubanatur (about £31 per person per night) This was our 2nd stay in Havana and we thought that the location is perfect - it was just £3-4 for a taxi (4 passengers) to just about anywhere across Old Havana. Would recommend a carriage ride around the old town - it will show you the sites Hope to go back again one day,.........

    “Great location but...es Cuba. ”
Good location and great staff. Stayed here for a few days in February before heading to Piñar del Rio, then for another night before heading back to Miami. The Good: Staff was very nice and the hotel has a lot of charm. My girlfriend lost a bunch of money out of the 8th floor window (don't ask) and the security guard was nice enough to go out on to the roof of the dining room where it fell and retrieve her CUCs. The Bad: I was all excited to be able to use the wireless internet and planned accordingly before departing the US. Upon arrival, I was told "No hay" when I asked for the cards. Apparently, the only hotel in all of Cuba where they were available was the Melia Habana, way the hell in Miramar. Several days later when we got back from Piñar del Rio, the same answer, "No hay." There's a lot of places to stay in Havana these days. The location in Vedado and its staff make this a hotel to consider.

    “Old fashioned, no appeal ”
We stayed just one night at this hotel at the end of our holidays, and we have to admit that it was the worst one. We do not understand what is the appealing detail of this place... the swimming pool was dirty and we could not swim !!! The guy at the bar who was in charge of the towels was very rude; the way he spoke to my husband was a shame. The room was old-fashioned and the bathroom was absolutely not clean. The breakfast was OK but really under the others we had. The only good point is the location; the area is very cool and nice ! Sorry for this place maybe we were not at the good moment, but we did not enjoy at all our stay and decided to change the night after.

    “Pleasantly old fashioned hotel ”
This hotel is a beautiful 1920?s Art Deco building in the Vedado area of Havana, to the west of the old city. Although it is several kilometres, or a good 45 minute walk, from the city centre, it is located only a few steps from the Malecón sea front. The view from a room on one of the upper floors is excellent. The T1 city tour bus (the most interesting of the three routes, which goes all through the old city centre) has a stop right at the front door, although the waiting taxi drivers would prefer you to hop into their (admittedly splendid) 1950?s American classic vehicles. The tour bus stops every half hour from 9am to 9pm. The lobby area of the hotel is sumptuous and impressive, with many pictures and small statues and other works of art on display. The reception staff, however, can on occasion be somewhat less than attentive, for example pausing to discuss their staff lottery arrangements while a queue is waiting at the desk. The room was perfectly acceptable and clean, with a good shower and bathroom, and pleasantly old fashioned décor. There was a wide choice of TV channels, including BBC World and CNN. The food in the restaurant was adequate if uninspiring, consisting mostly of standard Cuban fare, and served as a somewhat tired looking buffet. (The other two hotels we stayed in, Havana Libre and Bella Costa Varadero, had far superior food offerings.) There is a nice outside patio area in which to enjoy a drink in the evening as you watch life in Havana go by.

    “Long Weekend In Havana ”
visited Havana at last minute and found this hotel which initially thought was too far from central Havana but it is not really. Too far to walk but a taxi charges 5CUC about $5 right into the centre so getting a few taxis a day was not a problem. Staff service was excellent as was the accommodation, nice clean, spacious room, good breakfast, I only ate in the restaurant once in the evening but it was pretty good. The hotel seems quite busy in the evenings for those who do not want to venture out. all in all a good place to stop and will stop here again.

“Decent location, clean rooms, adequate service ”
Before leaving I checked a number of reviews of this hotel and for the most part I think its best to put it all in context. Location: Hotel is located on the outer edge of Malecon in Vedado. We liked walking and so actually walked to Havana Vieja from here. it is such a great experience, you see so much more of Centro Habana and other bits that tourists who stay in Havana dont see. alternatively you can take taxis. Besides that Vedado has so much to offer and there are great paladares/bars within walking distance of the hotel. Amenities: The rooms were clean and comfortable and we slept very well. Bathrooms a bit old but not dirty. Television had BBC/CNN. The pool was nice enough and on Fridays and Saturdays there is good live music downstairs. Also the bar was decently priced. Only poor thing was breakfast which was not particularly appetizing to me although my friends didnt mind it as much. Service: Reasonable enough. This is Cuba not Swiss hospitality school. I would stay here again. it made for a memorable trip

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel and just love it because of its size and quiet location. There are many palladars within walking distance and we discovered several new ones. The staff here are always friendly and remembered our names from previous visits. I will be returning to Havana in September with a delegation for a Masonic Symposium and this is where we will stay.

    “Decent hotel ”
The service was good. The lobby bar and restaurant were okay. There was a live music in the evening in the lobby. The hotel entrance and reception area looked smart and posh. There was a swimming pool as well. The only reason why I am rating the hotel overall at 3 is because we had a leak in the room. There was a heavy storm outside and the water was coming inside. The receptionist gave us another room but there was water inside as well.

“Grand Old Hotel Has Seen Better Days”
We stayed at this hotel twice during our trip to Cuba for 2 days at the beginning and two days at the end. We had different rooms both times. Rooms were nice and big with big bathrooms and great views from the 7th and 9th floors. The lobby and veranda were very nice with that old world charm. Located 3 blocks from the ocean. The big problem we found with this hotel was mold and mildew in the rooms. They were damp and smelt bad. Our second room had a huge amount of mold right above our bed and you could see where there was more that was painted over to try to cover it up. Even the watercolor picture above the bed had run down into the bottom of the glass frame. Not a very healthy place to be. My partner was continually sneezing while in the room. The bathroom taps in the shower and bath faucet continually dripped and couldn't be shut off (needed new washers). The second room we stayed in was missing the bathtub faucet all together. As much as we liked the ambiance of this hotel I think it has seen better days!

    “Better than expected ”
I had a group of 11 artists there for a week. Overall I would say were were all pleased. There were a few glitches but here?s what we liked: The rooms were generous in size, bathrooms were great the views were fantastic whether we had rooms overlooking the sea or overlooking Havana. I found the receptionists very helpful for the most part. Some reviews talked about internet access or the absence of WiFi. There IS WiFi. You buy a card (tarjeta) for 4.50 CUC?s ? about $41/2 and that gives you one hour at the lobby computers or your own WiFi connection on your computer. I was up on the 6th floor and had no trouble getting on line. I will say that some of my clients ? the ones who were using iPads had some difficulty getting on. Some of them figured it out and some didn?t. If you have either a computer or an iPad you search for wireless networks and you will see ETECSA. That?s the one. Click on connect, then open a browser window. You will be asked to enter the login and password that?s on the card. I need to stay in contact with clients around the US so I bought 2 or 3 cards per day to do that. Back to the hotel. I liked the beds ? firm and comfy. I slept really well and I?m a light sleeper. The rooms have safes and cards to open the room doors. My room card worked fine each time but some of my clients had to return to the desk more than once to get the card re-programmed. In some cases the safes didn?t work. Not a big deal for me as I carried my passport wherever I went. There?s a small bar in the lobby and that was nice to have. Glasses of wine were 4 CUC?s. Beers I believe were less. The breakfast room is on one side of the lobby and the hotel restaurant is on the other side. Get to the breakfast room early because it can fill up fast. The selection was really good. From scrambled eggs to eggs over easy to just about everything else you can imagine. The coffee machine put out some nasty stuff they call coffee, but it was better than nothing. However, the restaurant is another animal altogether. We went in one night as a group to have dinner and to a person we decided it was the worst pizza we had in our lives. The wines were good but forget the food. There are plenty of good restaurants around town so you don?t have to deal with the one at the hotel. One of these restaurants is nearby and is one of those Paradors- restaurants in family homes. The one most convenient to the hotel (3 blocks away) is on the 11th floor of a high rise. I was skeptical at first but the place was fantastic. Called Porto Habana we had a bill for our group totaling 174 CUC?s. 8 of us went so you can see that the average per person is about 20 and that included two bottles of wine, two sangrias, dessert and cappuccino. Fantastic food! Beef, chicken, pork, rice and beans, tapas, lots of good choices and in such a great atmosphere. Have the desk make a reservation for you. Bottom line is that I?m planning to bring more groups to Cuba and without hesitation will stay at Presidente again. Another group of 20 artists were in Cuba at the same time as my group (I organized for them as well) wound up staying at a higher end hotel. They had no electricity or hot water for two days! So my vote goes to Presidente. One last thing. Some people mentioned not having hot enough water in the shower. I found that one day the water would be luke warm and the next day really nice and hot. Not a deal breaker for us.

    “Old World Charm ”
We stayed at Hotel Roc Presidente as part of the Havana leg of an 8-day tour. Overall our stay was pretty good, the bed was large and comfortable, staff were friendly and helpful, if sometimes a little disorganised, and the hotel possesses an incomparable old-world charm. Unfortunately the rustic nature of the building and furnishings also extended to the amenities and both the showers and window shutters were a bit of a pain to deal with. The lifts were tiny and one of them was broken during our stay, so we typically had to leave our room 10-15 minutes before we were due in the lobby. We also had a couple of miscommunications with the front desk. Despite this, we enjoyed our stay here. The location near the Malecon is picturesque and the historic centre is only a short and cheap cab ride away. Breakfast by the pool was a lovely start to the day and the cocktails served in the lobby and on the terrace were delicious.

    “Different Hotel, different experience ”
This hotel is a bit off the regular tourist path, so walking the neighborhood, one feels as if you are seeing the local Cuba.a different experience. Stayed here for a few days, the staff is awesome and acccomadating, the rooms are well equipped with twin beds, and shutters on the windows. The bathrooms are large for the room, and well equipped with toiletries, towels and toilet paper. I stayed on the 3rd floor and the shower was abymssal, only a mild drip of hot water, but plenty of towels. The lobby bar is my favorite, and the girl band that plays in the evenings are wonderful. Even tried the formal dining room, had the chicken and it was good, had a bit of spice to it.. The weather for part of my stay was torrential rain and winds. The howling wind through the shutters was amazzing, and kept me up on night, just listening to the noise. The Malecon was closed to traffic, but the waves washed over the street. Pretty awesome. The street even flooded by torrential rians and winds but the area is used to this as 15 minutes later there was no evidence of water on the street. Cuba is different, viva la difference.

“Grand Dame with waterfront views ”
This beautiful old hotel is still in fairly good shape, considering most of Havana around it is crumbling. It has beautiful features like great antiques in the lobby, wonderful tile, crown molding, and great views of the ocean and the pool cabana from our window. It's a great jumping off point to see the rest of the city. It's inexpensive, and the staff by and large are helpful, if occasionally rude. They have bands perform every night, from the front porch or the lobby. The porch itself is a great place to sit and enjoy a cigar. If you don't want to spend a fortune, this is a great place to stay.

We were housed here as part of an InsightCuba tour. Promised top hotels, but this was first of many disappointments about tour. Hotel is okay, clean, friendly staff, nice public spaces, but when in Havana you want to be near the old city and this it not. It required a cab ride (inexpensive) to go anywhere of interest. Why use this hotel when there are better choices?

    “Ok not great ”
    1. Clean and comfortable enough, so it meets the minimum standard for a hotel. Rooms are like old Holiday Inns. 2. Pretty terrace and pool, nice after a day of poking around in the heat. 3. Location in Vedado is good if you want out of downtown, but it's not walkable to anywhere other than Vedado and the outer reaches of the Malecon. Taxi is 5 CUC to Vieja. 4. Staff hasn't seemed to pick up yet that with the economic reforms, the hotels have competition, and it's not a bad idea to be nice to the guests. 5. WiFi didn't work, and it took too much convincing that it really was their system, and not my device, before they refunded the payment. 6. Breakfast buffet was a little tired, but ok for energy at the beginning of the day. Coffee machine wasn't terrific. We had way better breakfasts over a couple weeks. Conclusion: I guess I'd go with Hotel Nacional if interested in the big hotel experience or, better, one of the homestays or boutiques that are all over Havana.

Despite the fact that ?Presidente? is positioned as fully remodeled hotel, you still feel there like in 50?s, especially using bathroom facilities which are quite tough to manage. In general, conditions are acceptable. Hotel is situated in diplomatic area, safe and quiet. Yet it will cost you 5 CUCs to get to the city center. Hotel also offers room safe which turned out to be not so safe as my friend?s mobile has magically disappeared out of it. What I loved the most during our 4 days stay in Presidente was their lovely terrace outside the hotel?s lobby where you can relax after touristy days in noisy Havana.

    “Discourteous staff ”
We stayed 3 nights as part of a tour. The hotel is functional but characterless - more aimed at business users in style. However it's bonus was the social area outside of the hotel lobby - which was well used. Unfortunately, for tourists, it is quite a walk from the sights or night life. The rooms and bathroom were adequate and comfortable. Our breakfast buffet gave enough choice - though don't expect a decent coffee from the machine!! But we found that in all the hotels. What let this hotel down were the discourteous staff - in all areas of customer care from the reception to the bar staff, porters to dining staff. Service ranged from blatantly ignoring us for 20 mins in the restaurant to serving us coffee in the bar whilst carrying out a full conversation with a colleague. There was no welcome,no smile, no pleasantry from any member of staff - and we had the distinct impression that we were causing them a great inconvenience. As Cuba opens itself up more to tourism, this is something that needs to be addressed as it gives a poor impression of the country and it's welcoming culture.

    “More than Adequate ”
I stayed here for about a week and found this hotel more than adequate. Of course, I am very used to traveling in third world countries where you are lucky to get lukewarm water for your shower. I was pleasantly surprised to consistently get hot water here. I was even more shocked to discover that you can get reasonably fast Internet connections (to email and Facebook) via the Wi-Fi service in the lobby. Of course, you must pay a fee for this, but this service is relatively difficult to find in Cuba. The room was kept clean, the bed was reasonably comfortable, the television worked, and the outlets worked. Since we had hot water and external sounds were minimal, I was fine with the room amenities. The breakfast buffet was varied and decent. Coffee was mediocre (not gourmet), but that is surprisingly common in a country that produces its own beans. This isn't the most luxurious hotel you can find in Havana, but this is a serviceable hotel in the "middle class" area of the city. Personally I prefer being closer to historic and cultural venues when visiting, but I still was able to walk from the hotel to old, historic Havana--it just took an hour and a half to get there.

“This hotel is average/3 stars for Cuba standards -- 2 stars/poor if it was anywhere else ”
My hotel stay was arranged by my (religious) group so I had no say in where we stayed. I read the TripAdvisor reviews before my trip so the first thing I did was check the water pressure in my shower -- subpar, so they switched me to a top floor room with a great view of the ocean (and better water pressure). The hallway of the top floor reeked of mildew but my room smelled fine. Toilets were not very strong -- if you wanted to flush twice, you had to wait a few minutes between flushes (but everything ultimately flushed away). Cleaning lady did nice job in the room -- make sure you tip her each day -- my friends did not tip and were left letters by the cleaning lady hinting at a tip. Breakfast was more than adequate as far as selection. Hair dryer was weak -- bring your own along with a converter. I found front desk people to be fine -- they were not rude but they were not overtly friendly either. If this hotel was anywhere else but Cuba, I would have given it 1 or 2 stars but given the financial situation of Cuba, I think you have to lower your expectations -- hence the 3 stars. However, if I were to go back to Cuba, I would not stay at this hotel again. Instead, I would find a better hotel, especially since I like to stay in 4 or 5 star hotels in general. Most important tip for Cuba travel in general is to bring small packets of tissues because most places in Cuba (outside of the hotel) do not have toilet paper in the bathrooms!!!!

The bed was okay, the mini-fridge was good and the cleaning staff did a fine job. Reception was not very nice and wake-up calls were not reliable. The pool was pleasant, filled with salt water, but if you're looking for pristine, you'll be disappointed. I didn't even try to use the internet, but heard from others in my group that it didn't work very well and was also expensive. There is nothing within easy walking distance of this hotel, so if you want to have some cold drinks in your room fridge, bring them with you. We stayed here 3 nights. The hotel is 2 blocks from the Malecon, but a bit of a distance from Old Havana. Our room was on the 8th floor and was adequate size. The bathroom was marginal, the toilet barely flushed and our shower had a slight dribble at all times (we simply closed the door at night, but what a waste of water). They did however have nice towels. Other people in our tour group also had problems with their bathrooms. The bellhops and bar staff were all friendly and helpful, but people at the front desk had a bit of an attitude. Breakfast was good. This is rather an average hotel. Only 4 stars to Cuban standards. We booked in advance and arrived in an hotel where the bigger part of the lobby was hidden behind cardboard walls for renovation purposes. There was ampel room in front of the counter. That's typical: Cubans wait too long before repairing things and sudden it's breaks down all together. And it's never mentioned in advance. I guess that the majority of the tourists only come once. So why telling and bothering about satisfied guests? We had a room on the 8 floor, facing downtown Havana. Everything was functioning hot water, hair dryer, fridge..), but outworn. As is this city. Although the Location was OK, we were very disappointed with the hotel Roc Presidente in Havana. I did say while booking this hotel that i wanted a nice 4/5* but this was more like a 2* (we were told this was a much better hotel in comparison to the original hotel offered by the Holiday place). The rooms and the hall way had a very strong smell of damp which made our cloths stink. Ants in the bed room and bathrooms which was very annoying specially when trying to sleep. The shower had waster pooring/dripping also and was not very hot/warm at times. Breakfast was average and we had to ask for more when it got empty. When asking the woman near reception about trips, she wasnt much help, we ended up going to another hotel to ask about trips and things to do in Havana. The exchange rate was also very poor in comparison to other hotels in the area (1.48 in comparison to 1.53 at the National hotel). Very disappointing :( We were shown a different room on a different floor after complaining to the hotel but this was just as bad. We were only here for 3 nights and also i we really enjoyed Havana, we couldnt wait to get out of this hotel...and move on to Varadero. The Blau Varadeo was very nice and the standard of hotel we were expecting and hoping for in Havana also.

    Good
Located in the Havana sector of El Vedado, the Presidente Hotel is at walking distance from the Malecón (Seaside Promenade), an avenue that has become a meeting point for friends, lovers and families, and which is an excellent place to walk by the sea. The hotel is located on Avenida de los Presidentes (Presidents Avenue) and is very close to major cultural institutions such as Casa de las Américas, and several nightclubs where tourists can enjoy a wide range of Cuban musical genres. The Presidente Hotel is also famous in the Cuban capital for its peculiar vermillion and beige façade, which is visible from a distance.
