Description Areas of Natural Interest: National Botanical Gardens, Havana . Cuba
This spacious area located in Lenin Park contains everything from a Japanese garden to greenhouses bursting with cacti and tropical vegetation. This gorgeous botanical garden, covering a 600 hectare surface, is situated only 25 km away from town and deserves a special visit from all eco-fans. You will find yourself in the middle of 150000 specimens and over 4000 different kinds of Cuban and international plants. The most natural ambient is created by elevation and an artificial creation of little hills. The whole place is organized into geographical areas. We recommend you to keep an eye on the cactus pavilion, tropical rain forest, the Buganville and Orchids exposition, the palm-tree collection and the Japanese garden, tastefully designed with little water falls and fountains. You won´t have to leave the place when feeling hungry. The restaurant “El Bambú” is a flagship of traditional vegetarian kitchen.

Capital of Cuba and the country's administrative, political, cultural and scientific center, it is also the capital of two provinces: City of Havana and Havana. Though only around 280 square miles (727 square kilometers) in size-0.65 percent of the archipelago's total area.
The Old Havana and system of forts led UNESCO to declare it a part of world heritage in 1982. Founded on its present site in 1519, the settlement of San Cristobal de La Habana prospered mainly due to its bay, which was a natural port of call for ships sailing to and from the New World. Starting in 1634, because of its strategic location, San Cristobal de La Habana was considered the key to the New World-as attested to by royal letters patent-and the main defense of the West Indies.
The Cuban capital consists of an immense number of buildings in a wide range of architectural styles, built in the course of nearly five centuries. These styles range from the pre-baroque to the baroque, neo-Gothic, neoclassical, eclectic, art noveau and art-deco, to the modern.
Alejo Carpentier, one of Cuba's most famous authors, called it "the city of columns" and focused attention on its streets, which he considered a perennially rich show of life, humanity and contrasts that was bound to entertain any observer.
Over 14 kilometers of excellent beaches lie to the east of the Cuban capital. To the south, a green belt contributes to a healthful atmosphere.

BorisJardín Japonés Koisima
Jardín Japonés Koisima This wonderful Japanese garden Koisima -Love Island- is located within the premises of Restaurant 1830. It has several caves, terraces, bridges and ways all among exotic trees and plants in the mouth of river Almendares, at the end of Havana sea-wall. Waiters can bring visitors some drinks but it would be very good for the place to have its own bar and well-assorted too. A nice place to be at sunset, especially in couple. -

This is one of the most agreeable spots on the island. The Botanical Gardens offer a marvelous collection of plants from all around the Caribbean, and particularly from Cuba. The Japanese Garden replete with fountains and waterfalls is a favorite among tourists and a perfect place to stop and rest. The facility includes a cafeteria, toilets, etc. The trip ends with a visit to the ExpoCuba Exhibition Center, followed by a delicious traditional Cuban lunch at the Don Cuba restaurant. -

The National Botanical Gardens of Cuba lie to the south of the city, being just a short distance to the east of Jose Marti International Airport. Covering an immense 1,500 acres / 600 hectares, the gardens contain large and important collections of exotic plants, trees and flowers, some of which grow in vast glasshouses. Landscaped areas include a Japanese Garden with oriental features, seasonal flower borders and plenty of seating. Guided tours are available onboard a land train, allowing you to see the main horticultural attractions and gardens within approximately two hours. -

Toured the botanical gardens with a botanist guide from the University (with which the gardens are affiliated). The facility is expansive and well laid out. It also provides a welcome and calming green environment as a get away from the hustle and bustle of Havana. We had lunch in the restaurant there -- based on our experience I would eat... More -

jean_mcleod67“Well worth a visit ”
Situated on the outskirts of havana, these gardens are in the best traditions of botanical study. Supported by the university and with links to worldwide gardens, including Kew, they have some very interesting collections. The glasshouse are stunning and beautifully maintained. The collection of palms is very interesting, as are the collections of trees from different continets.
